About SwissPay

SwissPay exists because Swiss job ads quote one number and Swiss bank accounts receive another. We translate official Swiss salary statistics into the take-home figures internationals actually need - and we show our sources for every number.

What we do

Every page on SwissPay is built the same way. We start from official statistics - above all the Swiss Earnings Structure Survey of the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) - add the social-insurance parameters published by the federal authorities, and finish with the tax spread documented by the Federal Tax Administration (ESTV). Where a figure cannot be verified from an official source, we say so on the page and mark it as an approximate range to verify with the authority concerned.

The core tools: a gross-to-net calculator covering all 26 cantons, a canton comparison built on the BFS 2024 regional medians, profession deep-dives such as nurse salary and software engineer salary, and a working in Switzerland guide for permits, contracts and withholding tax. Start anywhere; they all lead back to the benchmarks hub.

Who we write for

Our reader holds a Swiss offer - or is comparing several - and lives outside the Swiss admin system. That is why we explain AHV, ALV, BVG and Quellensteuer in plain English, why the calculator splits deductions layer by layer, and why every canton figure comes with the tax rate that reverses part of it. We do not sell data, run job ads or take recruiting commissions.

Editorial policy

Figures carry their source and survey year inline ("per BFS, 2024"). Pages are dated and revisited when new statistics or social-insurance parameters are published. SwissPay is an independent information service; estimates are clearly labelled and are never a substitute for the tax office, a pension fund statement or an employment lawyer.
